Our
Story
In another time, it was a famous seaside resort.
In the 1930s, Hollywood's rich and famous (including the Barrymores
and Greta Garbo) visited the mineral springs for their rejuvenating
powers.

Today, after being home to generations of retired persons
who have loved its classic style and idyllic location, Carlsbad By
The Sea is still paying tribute to the past.
The first Carlsbad Hotel opened in the late 1880s on the same site as the new Carlsbad By The Sea Retirement Community. In 1929, it was rebuilt in a classic California mission style. Back then, the resort offered hot and cold mineral and fresh water baths.
When the hotel closed down and the retirement community opened in mid 1900s, residents experienced similar resort-like services. Rebuilt and reopened in 1998, the new Carlsbad By The Sea replicates the unique mission-style architecture of the original 1929 structure and continues the long tradition of resort style living with emphasis on health and wellness.
Carlsbad By The Sea is part of the Front
Porch family of communities. Supported by California
Lutheran Homes and Community Services for almost 50 years, Carlsbad By The Sea mixes the modern amenities of today with the traditions of the past. |
